I am thrilled to announce a special three-day course Natural Dyeing for Potholder Weavers, led by instructor Allie Feldman of Rooted Botanics. Taking place over three consecutive Sundays in January 2025, this hands-on in-person workshop will cover the fundamentals of natural dyeing, allowing you to learn about a variety of plant-based dyes over an extended period. All classes will take place at the Rooted Botanics Studio in Ojai, CA.

Whether you're new to dyeing or looking to expand your creative skills, this course is a wonderful opportunity to explore the world of natural color, connect with others, and leave with beautifully hand-dyed loops for potholder weaving. Come join us for an enriching, creative experience!

CLASS SCHEDULE:

Sunday, January 5, 2-5pm: Introduction, scouring and mordanting and a showing of plant dyed fabrics in madder, coreopsis, marigold, logwood, cutch and walnut

Sunday, January 12, 2-5 pm: Create an indigo vat and dyeing with indigo

Sunday, January 19, 2-5 pm: Eco-printing with dye flowers and native plants

The relaxed schedule gives you ample time to fully immerse yourself in each step of the dyeing process, while enjoying the camaraderie of a small, supportive group of fellow weavers. Each student will be given a custom Rooted Botanics Journal to take notes.

Cost: $300 per person.

The price does not include 40 white loops for indigo dyeing and two completed white weavings for eco-printing. Participants will need to bring these materials to the first class. You can purchase white loops in my online store here.

All classes will take place at the Rooted Botanics Studio in Ojai, CA. The full address will be given in advance of the course.

Due to the nature of how much work and prep goes into these workshops, all sales are strictly non-refundable.

More about Allie and Rooted Botanics:

Rooted Botanics is the synergy of ethnobotany, traditional craft, & art. A business that not only sells clothing, but tells a story about the historic culture of natural dyes and the plants that are all around us. Rooted started with a yearning to create a lifestyle that could support a long term dream. It started with the idea of bringing new life to vintage clothing through plant dyes, but continues to evolve into so much more. Having so much passion for a craft that is rooted in so much history and culture has driven the founder, Allie, to step into her role as not only an artist, but as a teacher as well. Through continuous learning, observation, and experimentation, her art has transformed into many mediums such as eco-printing, paint making from plants, dyeing with native plants, mushroom dyeing, and so much more!
